The Radeon pro WX series is designed for visualization, according to their architecture and engineering page on their website. I guess the higher memory clockspeed of the WX 7100 makes it a good option for VR, animation etc but I think I will go with the Vega because lots of people talk about their perfectly working configuration with it and I'm having hard time finding reviews of MPB / Sonnet / WX 7100. If you still want to go that road, my conclusion is to get the best processor you can and lots of RAM on the MBP, especially if you're gonna work on complex scenes.įor the rest, having read a lot about various configurations and considering the fact I'm using Blender, I recently decided to go with the Sonnet 650 and for the card and for my budget, I'm still hesitating between the Sapphire Vega 64 and the AMD WX 7100.

Also being always on the go, I'm not into buying a second machine.

I posted this because I already have a Mac and I won't sell it for a fraction of his price. So after reading tons of posts and articles, after calling AMD and Apple a few times, if you want it to be your workstation for architecture, I wouldn't go with Apple.

It is also interesting to know the feedback from participants I am also going to buy Macbook Pro in January.

I use CUBASE and many VST's on Windows system never had major issues, about the same that I had when use apple products.īut of course it all depends of what and how you do it right?

Most of software developer list all hardware compatibility for their software.īTW I used to be an apple user too, long time ago but because of the advances in software I had to move a head to a hardware that was more compatible with my profession and be able to get more bang for my bucks. If you find that Blender will play along with that eGPU then go ahead and use it, be inform yourself first. Or I can build it myself.īut I guess this won't fix my GPU rendering.?īuilding it yourself may be a hit and miss, Apple cut all corners so the user has to buy only their authorized products and nothing else.įor any external GPU system you need to check with your software if it will work with an external GPU, not all of them do that. Maybe not as well as ARM in some applications, but perhaps in the future something can be altered with x86 to address that.So there is an option for those who want to stay on Mac. Campaign contributions) government officials to prevent such a necessary measure.Īnyway, x86 does NOT have to be inefficient, and can perform most of that most people require with low power consumption. In the current environment this would produce a huge advantage for AMD though (testing in reviews have shown that when Rembrandt and Alder lake mobile chips are limited to 15w, for example, the Rembrandt chip outperforms Alder lake and based on all the reports that Nvidia is pushing Lovelace power consumption to the absolute limit because they think they need to to beat RDNA3, if GPUs were power limited it probably negatively impact Nvidia), so it would undoubtedly result in companies like Nvidia and Intel, but many more as well and probably even AMD just so that they have increased power limits as an option, lobbying and legally bribing (i.e. I know most people would scream bloody murder, but perhaps there should be greater regulation on power consumption for consumer CPUs and GPUs.

From AMD's point of view, the fact that consumers are buying Intel' s Alder lake and Nvidia GPUs and will continue to buy Raptor lake and Lovelace despite atrocious power consumption signals to them that efficiency doesn't sell, so why bother down that path.īTW, this is a PERFECT example of the rebound effect (the observation that technological gains in efficiency have literally never resulted in a net decrease in energy consumption), and how the "free market" fails at delivering what is needed now more than ever: lower NET power consumption. I'd be willing to bet that AMD could push efficiency even more if it wasn't for Intel and Nvidia producing seriously power hungry chips and basically requiring AMD to follow suit to compete on total performance. Not so much AMD's side, their Rembrandt chips are very efficient, their desktop chips are more efficient than Intel's too and there's no doubt their GPUs will win on efficiency too with the upcoming generation.
